NAGERCOIL

The last bogie of a Chennai-bound special train, which was scheduled to depart from Nagercoil at 7.40 p.m., derailed in the shunting yard when the train was moving to a platform at Nagercoil railway station around 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Ten two-wheelers that were parked near the Rail Mail Service office suffered damage after the derailed bogie rammed into the parking lot meant for railway staff, sources said.

However, nobody was injured. It was a 17-bogie special train.

Collector Sajjan Singh R. Chavan said a team of Revenue department officials inspected the accident site. Necessary steps were being taken to restore normalcy.

The train’s departure could be delayed, sources said.
