March 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - TUTICORIN:

An operation to retrieve the Coastal Security Group’s patrol boat that sank off the coast of Manappad on Wednesday early morning due to engine failure and rough weather is likely to be conducted on Friday.

Sources in the CSG said that a team led by ADGP C. Sylendra Babu went to the spot on Thursday and divers were pressed into service to locate the ill-fated boat. “As the divers identified the exact location of the boat, buoys have been floated around the spot where the retrieval operation will be conducted on Friday, if the weather conditions are conducive,” said the sources.

When the patrol boat was on its way from Kanyakumari to Rameswaram, it sank off the coast of Manappad around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. Since the boat was carrying ammunition and had been fitted with modern communication gadgets, it will be retrieved with the help of divers and other equipment.
