The Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the Railways to run a link service to the new Mannargudi-Coimbatore Chemmozhi Express that will be introduced from June 11, for the benefit of commuters of Karaikal, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur districts for reaching Tiruppur and Coimbatore.

A large number of people of these districts are employed in Tiruppur and Coimbatore districts.

The provision of a link train from Cuddalore to Thanjavur to suit the timings of the Mannargudi-Coimbatore train will immensely benefit these people. The Railways could delink eight coaches of the Chemmozhi Express at Thanjavur junction and run a link express up to Cuddalore via Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Chidambaram in both directions, said K. Rajendran, National Council Member of the BJP and president Social Action Team-Tamil Nadu in a statement here today.

He urged the Railways to introduce the new Thanjavur-Mayiladuthurai-Chennai Express announced in the Railway Budget 2013 without any delay. This train should stop at all taluk headquarters en route, he said.

Mr. Rajendran pleaded with the Railways to take steps to introduce all other trains announced in the Railway Budget 2012 and 2013 such as the Karaikal–Mumbai Weekly Express, Puducherry–Kanniyakumaru Weekly Express immediately.

The commuters of the delta districts had been pleading for the Kacheguda – Madurai Express to be routed through the main line.

But the Railways decided to run the train via Karur, Erode, and Salem. Four trains are already being operated on Erode-Salem route.

If the weekly express train was run via Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, and Mayiladuthurai it would get good patronage, he added.
