BJP nominee for Tirunelveli Mayor’s post joins AIADMK

G.P.R. Vellaiammal, the BJP’s nominee to contest the Tirunelveli mayoral election who later withdrew from the race, joined the AIADMK in the presence of party general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa here on Friday.

Ms. Vellaiammal, along with her husband and BJP former State Traders’ Wing secretary Ganesa Perumal Raja, met Ms. Jayalalithaa, along with Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Minister P. Sendhur Panidan and Tirunelveli AIADMK district secretary S. Muthukaruppan, and received the membership card.

Likewise, the BJP State Executive member and party nominee for the Chennai Corporation Ward No 166 councillor elections, Needhi Xavier, also met the Chief Minister and joined the AIADMK. Chennai Corporation Mayor Saidai Duraisamy and Alandur MLA V.N.P. Venkatraman were present.

The Pattalai Makkal Katchi’s Puducherry unit leaders, including district secretary A.G. Mathialagan and State Youth Wing secretary V. Krishnamurthy, some MDMK office-bearers, All India Congress Committee member and Puducherry Women’s Commission former chairperson S. Kamalini, also joined the AIADMK. A couple of MDMK functionaries from Cuddalore district also joined the party in the presence of the Chief Minister.
