Bird flu: meeting discusses preventive measures

The district administration has launched effective steps to contain spreading of bird flu. The initiative was following the outbreak of the disease in Karnataka.

A total of 60 rapid response teams have been formed to monitor the situation across the district.

The Poultry Disease Control and Research Centre, Thalaivasal, and the Department of Animal Husbandry have also initiated various steps in this regard.

R. Sukumar, District Revenue Officer, presided over a meeting of the officials of the Animal Husbandry Department and other departments at the collectorate here on Friday. The owners of the poultry farms were also present at the meeting.

Mr. Sukumar, speaking at the meeting, said that following the bio-security measures on all incoming vehicles from the neighbouring Karnataka formed the main part of preventive measure. The services of the officials of the Poultry Disease Control and Research Centre, Thalaivasal, have also been roped in. Poultry farmers were told to take preventive measures based on the recommendation of the animal husbandry department. At the block level, the department officials were directed to hold discussion with the poultry farm personnel at regular intervals.
