Biometric attendance is to be introduced for teachers and students of industrial training institutes (ITIs) across the State from the ensuing academic year.
Labour Minister S. T. Chellapandian told the Assembly on Wednesday that the move was intended to ensure punctuality and participation in training classes.
New courses – marine engine fitter, repair and maintenance of electronic goods and hair and skin care for women – would be introduced in 11 ITIs. Administrative sanction had been accorded for starting new ITIs at Karumandurai, Anaicutti, Gudalur, Jamunamaruthur and Kolli Hills and a plan to start five more at Bodinaickanur, Veppalodai, Aruppukottai, Radhapuram and Thiruvaiyaru was under consideration of the government, he said.
New Employees’ State Insurance Corporation dispensaries would be started in Tiruvarur, Valparai, Haritha (Belakondapalli), Sulagiri and Avinashipalayam to benefit 18,030 employees. A Siddha unit would be attached to ESI dispensaries in Nandambakkam, Perianaickenpalayam, Vickramasingapuram and Virudhunagar and a homoeopathy unit to the dispensaries in Kovilpatti and Tuticorin.
