Police are on the lookout for three unidentified youths who tried to snatch a gold chain from an Assistant Professor in Kovilpatti on Thursday.

The police said N. Rajeshwari (28) of Aththaikondan, an Assistant Professor in a private college in Kovilpatti, was going to her village on a moped on Thursday.

When she was crossing Kovilpatti additional bus stand, three youths, who came on a bike, attempted to snatch her gold chain, weighing 5 sovereigns, after violently hitting her two-wheeler with their bike.

Though she fell on the ground, Ms. Rajeshwari resisted their attempt and screamed for help.

Even before the people in the vicinity could come to her rescue, the culprits escaped on their bike.

First aid

Ms. Rajeshwari was administered first aid at Kovilpatti Government Hospital, and was referred to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Kovilpatti West police have registered a case and are investigating.
