Bid to burgle bank

An attempt was made to rob Indian Overseas Bank’s branch situated near Kuttalam taluk office near Mayiladuthurai on Tuesday.

The bank has installed CCTVs but there was no watchman. Employees left the bank around 9.00 p.m. on Monday. Some persons along gained entry into the bank after scaling the compound wall with a gas cylinder and welding machine.

They broke open the iron rods of the window and entered the locker room. They tried to open the locker but in vain. So, they left the scene leaving behind all instruments. The attempt came to light when the watchman of the taluk office saw the broken window rods. He informed the police. The police rushed to spot along with sniffer dogs.
