Electricity conservation awareness rally

Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology conducted an electricity conservation awareness rally in Thirubuvanai village of Puducherry. M. Dhanasekaran, Chairman and Managing Director, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust, chaired the function.

S.V. Sugumaran, Vice-Chairman and K. Narayanasamy, secretary of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust, presided over the programme. S. Malarkkan, Principal, Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology (MIT), welcomed the gathering.

K. Mathivanan, Superintending Engineer-I, and T.Chanemougam, Executive Engineer(General), Electricity Department, Puducherry, were the chief guests of the programme. K. Mathivanan, Superintending Engineer-I, flagged off the rally and briefed the students about the need for electricity conservation for the future generation.

He asked the students to switch off lights, electrical and electronics equipment when not in use. Mr. Mathivanan said that CFL and LED lights should be used and electronic choke should be for tube lights and to use ISI branded and star rated electronics.

B. Radjaram, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, welcomed the gathering. More than 100 students of Mechanical Engineering started the rally from Thirubuvanai Junction and carried out door to door canvassing in Thirubuvanai village by issuing pamphlets and tips for saving electricity sponsored by electricity department.

The energy conservation awareness rally was organised by the Energy Club of MIT, the staff members and students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Kendriya Vidyala NO.II Pondicherry University has for the sixth consecutive time achieved 100 per cent results in Class XII examination.

All the 29 students registered for class XII CBSE examination this year cleared the examination. The toppers include Anantharaman.G., who secured 481 marks. Chandrasekaran G. was ranked second with 474 marks and Bharanishwar Tirouvinguidame came third having secured 466 marks. School Principal K. Sampathkumar was elated with the results of class XII this year and congratulated all the students for their achievement.

Professional development programme held

Islamiah Women’s College, Vaniyambadi conducted professional development programme for college teachers recently. It was conducted under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching of Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. Sixty teachers of Islamiah Women’s College and Islamiah Men’s College attended the programme that was focused on how to teach effectively. M.A. Jayaraj, joint director of Collegiate Education, Vellore region inaugurated the programme. Major Syed Shahabudden, principal of Islamiah Women’s College was present, a press release said.

Placement day held

The placement day for final year students was held recently at Global Institute of Engineering and Technology. Hema Prasad, the college’s chairperson, congratulated the 213 students, who had secured jobs and obtained placement orders. K. N. Visveswaran, chief mentor, Hexavarsity, Hexaware Technologies, Chennai, took part, according to a press release.
