Various welfare measures were extended to beneficiaries at a special mass contact programme organised by the district administration at Threspuram, a coastal hamlet here, on Saturday.
According to a statement, Labour Minister S.T. Chellapandian inaugurated the programme in the presence of Collector Ashish Kumar. State assistance was given to 12 differently abled persons under Social Security Scheme. Besides, old age pension, educational assistance, marriage assistance and maritime educational assistance were given to four beneficiaries through Department of Fisheries.
Petitions seeking various demands were handed over to the Minister who ensured that officials would verify them and extend assistance at the earliest. Officials from various departments, including Fisheries, Social Security Scheme, TAHDCO, Adi Dravidar Welfare, Social Welfare, Differently Abled Welfare and Integrated Child Development Scheme explained ways and means to obtain benefits under government schemes.
Deputy Mayor P. Xavier, Revenue Divisional Officer, Tuticorin, G. Latha, Assistant Director of Fisheries (Marine) P. Pradeep Kumar, Manager of TAHDCO Komu, Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer Manoharan, Social Welfare Officer P. Muthunayaham, and Tahsildar Kaliyugavaradhan were present.
