A team of delegates from Bangladesh, led by Minister of State for Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman, visited the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) on Saturday.
Bangladesh intends to construct 1,200 MWe VVER nuclear reactors with Russian assistance on turnkey basis. High-level delegates led by Mr. Osman visited the KKNPP reactors, as Russia’s Atomstroyexports has constructed two 1,000 MWe reactors and planned to construct four more units with similar capacity.
Site Director, KKNPP, R.S. Sundar, took the delegates around the upcoming nuclear park and explained in detail the safety features incorporated in nuclear reactors. The delegates were also taken to the desalination plant, dyke and other areas.
Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh, Serajul Haq Khan, Director, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Mohamed Shawkat Akbar and experts from six associated fields including oceanography accompanied the minister during the visit.
The team, after their overnight stay at KKNPP’s Anu Vijay Township, is likely to leave for the next destination via Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday morning.
