After 49-hours of ban, tourists were allowed to take bath in the Main Falls as flood subsided around 1 p.m. on Thursday.

As the Western Ghats registered incessant rains since last Tuesday, all waterfalls in Courtallam, including the Main Falls, Five Falls and the Old Falls experienced floods around 12 noon on Tuesday, and the swelling waterfalls brought down small stones and branches of trees. Consequently, the police prevented the tourists from taking bath in the waterfalls and this situation continued till Wednesday. When floods subsided to some extent in the Five Falls on Thursday morning, the tourists were allowed take bath in it and the situation improved around 1 p.m., much to the jubilation of the visitors.

“Weather in Courtallam is very pleasant now. While intermittent drizzle drenches the tourists, the salubrious breeze mesmerizes everyone here. We expect good crowds during the weekend,” said Senthur Pandian, a trader from Courtallam.
