Awards presented

The second SASTRA-CNR Rao Award was presented to Prof. K. N. Ganesh, Director, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, and to Prof. V. Chandrasekhar, Director, National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, for Excellence in Chemistry and Materials Science, at the SASTRA University near here on Saturday.

SASTRA Vice-Chancellor R. Sethuraman gave away the awards to the distinguished scientists. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh each and a citation. Both the awardees are recipients of several national and international awards including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, the J. C. Bose Fellowship and are Fellows of all the Academies of Sciences in India as well as the Academy of Sciences of the Developing World, Trieste, Italy.

SASTRA University has instituted the SASTRA-CNR Rao Award to recognize outstanding contributions in the fields of chemistry and materials science - the two areas in which Prof. CNR Rao’s contribution has been phenomenal. The award is instituted in the name of Prof. CNR Rao as a tribute to his relentless services to strengthen India’s position in science and technology.
