Award for scholar

Noted Tamil writer Ashokamithran was presented with the ‘life time award' at the ‘Arignar Potruthum, Arignar Potruthum' programme organised by SRV Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Samayapuram near here recently.

Renowned cinematographer and film director, Balu Mahendra, who was the chief guest, presented the award that included a cheque of Rs. 25,000 and a statue of poet Bharathiar.

Writers Theni Seerudaiyaan, Appanasamy and A. Keeranur Jakeer Raja were the others who were honoured with cheques of Rs. 10,000 each on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Balu Mahendra said that one period every week should be allotted to assist the students to comprehend movies in the right sense.

Writer Ashokamithran replied to the felicitations.

A.Ramasamy, president of the school, presided over. P. Swaminathan, secretary, S. Selvarajan, treasurer and K. Thulasithasan, principal, spoke.
