An autorickshaw driver, who found a cover containing cash, outside the gate of Christian Medical College (CMC), handed it to the Vellore north police station on Thursday. The police returned the cash to its owner. M. Arivazhagan, Inspector, Vellore north police station, said the driver, Sekar, found the cover containing ₹64,500 cash outside the gate number 2 of CMC. An autorickshaw stand is located near the gate. A patient’s pharmacy receipt was found along with the cover.

“The driver handed over the cash to the station. We saw the pharmacy receipt and took the patient’s hospital number. We approached the hospital, produced the hospital number and got the address and contact details of the person. When we contacted him, he was searching for the cash that he had lost,” he said.

Rasu, a resident of Tirunelveli, had come to CMC. He had taken food at a hotel opposite the hospital and missed the cash cover when he returned to the hospital.
