Members of Adhi Thamizhar Peravai blocking Corporation Office Road in Dindigul onTuesday, demanding employment confirmationto sanitary workers.

Sixty seven members of Adhi Thamizhar Peravai (ATP) were arrested when they attempted to block Dindigul Corporation Road near Periyar statue here on Tuesday.

They were demanding that contract workers who had been employed by Dindigul Corporation for the past 12 years should be made permanent and pension benefits should be extended to retired sanitary workers.

As a ban on rallies and demonstrations is in force, the ATP members suddenly blocked the road, and the police immediately arrested them.

Peravai State general secretary Anandan said the ATP had staged demonstrations in front of corporation offices across the State, pressing for the same demands. The police in Dindigul curtailed the members’ basic rights by denying permission to take out a rally and stage a demonstration, he added.
