A day after Director General of Police T.K. Rajendran transferred the “attempt to trafficking” case of college girls by woman Assistant Professor Nirmala Devi to Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department, the documents and materials relating to the case were handed over to Superintendent of Police (CB-CID) S. Rajeswari on Wednesday.

The case would be investigated by the SP and assisted by CB-CID Deputy Superintendent of Police (Madurai) M. Muthusankaralingam.

Aruppukottai Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Dhanapal and Inspector of Police (Aruppukottai Town) Balamurugan handed over the case diary files and materials, including, mobile phones seized by Virudhunagar district police, to Ms. Rajeswari.

The SP would immediately take up the investigation of the case pertaining to the complaint of Devi attempting to lure four girls of her college to do “some favour for higher officials of Madurai Kamaraj University” in return for higher marks and money to be periodically deposited in their bank accounts.

Meanwhile, a lawyer, J. Balasubramaniam, who met Devi at Madurai Central Prison on Wednesday evening, claimed that she faced threat to her life in the jail.

“She told me that an unusual situation prevailed around her in the jail and expressed lack of safety to her life,” the lawyer said.

Devi felt that rival educational institutions were behind leaking the audio clip, he added, and said he would take the issue up with the court.
