Havildar K. Narayanasamy, who was killed in a road accident in Jammu, was laid to rest in his native village in Vellore with military honours on Sunday. The 42-year-old soldier died after the vehicle in which he was travelling skidded off the road and plunged into a river.

Havildar Narayanasamy of the 4 Engineer Regiment, Madras Engineer Group, was involved in “Operation Deewar” in Pattal in Jammu, according to retired Major D. Prakasam, deputy director, Ex-servicemen’s Welfare Association, Vellore.

“He along with another army man was transporting construction materials and generator for the work in a small military vehicle on the mountain. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a small river. The accident occurred on March 10,” he said.

Havildar Narayanasamy succumbed to injuries. His mortal remain was flown to his native village in Vellore district – Melvalam near Kannamangalam – on Sunday. He added that Havildar Narayanasamy served the Army for 20 years, and is survived by his wife Sheela and two sons.

Collector R. Nanthagopal and Superintendent of Police, Vellore P. Pakalavan paid homage to the soldier. He was laid to rest in his village with military honours.
