Rice to be procured at subsidised cost from TNCSC

Four Amma canteens, two each in Krishnagiri and Hosur, were inaugurated by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa via video conferencing on Sunday.

The canteens are located opposite Krishnagiri Government Hospital and at Bharathi Nagar near market place in Krishnagiri. Each canteen is spread over 1,500 sq.ft., and set up at a cost of Rs. 24.90 lakh.

The two canteens in Hosur are located on Lake Road and near Hosur Municipality. The canteen at Lake Road is spread over 2,420 sq.ft. and the one near the Municipality is spread over 1,600 sq.ft. The canteens in Hosur have been set up at a cost of Rs.24.50 lakh each.

In Dharmapuri, two Amma canteens have come into operation, near the Government Hospital and at the town bus stand. The canteens, each spread over 1,600 sq.ft., have been set up at a cost of Rs.35 lakh each.

The canteens will serve idlies, four per head, to 300 persons for breakfast, at a cost of Re.1 an idly. The food in the afternoon will include sambar rice at Rs.5 for 300 persons and curd rice at Rs.3 for 300 persons

The rice for the canteens will be procured at subsidised cost from the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) and groceries from the Government cooperatives.

For now, 12 women, in two shifts of 6 each, from women self-help groups have been engaged for daily operations.
