All accused detained under Goondas Act

All the five accused in the gang-rape of a woman in Namagiripettai, near Rasipuram on March 15, were detained under the Goondas Act here on Wednesday.

R. Rajesh (21), V. Ajith alias Santhosh (20), D. Jayasuriya (20), S. Ganesh Kumar (20) were lodged at borstal school in Paramathi, C. Birla (25) was lodged at Salem Central Prison. Detention orders were served to them.

The incident took place when the woman was walking with a man on the fateful day. The five men, working in sago units in the area, took her to a secluded placed and committed the crime. Sub-Inspector S. Loganathan from Namagiripettai police station was placed under suspension for failing to investigate the case properly.
