The Madras High Court Bench here has granted interim bail to the former Union Minister, M.K. Alagiri, in a land grab case.

After Madurai District Farmers’ Welfare Association president M. Ramalingam filed a complaint in June that the Dhaya College of Engineering at Sivarakottai had encroached on 44 cents of land belonging to the HR & CE Department, officials carried out an inspection and fenced the land recently.

The charge was that Mr. Alagiri, whose family owned the college, had grabbed the land through forged documents. After investigation, the Madurai District Police registered a case.

When Mr. Alagiri’s bail application came up, Justice Kalyanasundaram directed the police not to arrest him until September 3.
