The AIADMK will organise demonstrations across the State on May 29 to urge the Centre to roll back the hike in price of petrol, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said on Saturday.
In a statement here, the AIADMK general secretary said that the demonstration would be held in all the 52 party districts in the State and Puducherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, New Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
She denounced the demonstration plan announced by the DMK against the petrol price hike saying, it was mere eyewash, as the party was part of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.
“The unprecedented increase of Rs.7.50 per litre has evoked stiff opposition across the country. It is totally unbearable for the people in the current economic situation.”
Ms. Jayalalithaa said that instead of taking measures to arrest the fall in the value of Indian currency and rein in inflation, the Centre was subjecting the people to further difficulty by increasing the petrol price.
