The AIADMK (Amma) has criticised the ruling Congress for not obtaining 50% seats in MBBS courses in private medical colleges for government quota.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, leader of the party A. Anbalagan said of the 450 seats in the three private medical colleges here, the administration should have got 225 seats as government quota but the institutes had parted with only 165 seats. There were strict directions from the Medical Council of India on this.

The government had failed to intervene in time, he said. The Lieutenant Governor had also failed on this count, he added.

Local students had already lost 137 seats following the Supreme Court direction to the Directorate of Health Sciences, New Delhi, to take over admission in deemed universities.

The failure of the government in obtaining seats would hurt the prospects of several eligible students, he added.

The party would hold an agitation in front of Raj Nivas in a few days to protest the failure of the governmentin obtaining 50 per cent seats in private medical colleges, he added.
