Fracas caused by inner-party rivalry in AIADMK surfaced in the form of violent reactions during discussion at Karunkalpalayam in Erode district on Friday.

A simmering factional feud between two groups of ruling AIADMK surfaced on Friday in a free-for-all blows during a discussion at Karunkalpalayam in the city on formation of booth committee for the Assembly elections.

The fracas erupted when party workers Susheela and her brother Somasundaram, both supporters of City Corporation Third Zone chairman Manoharan, opposed a prominent role for Thangavel, confidante of the party candidate for Erode East constituency Thennarasu, a former MLA.

Supporters of Mr. Manoharan whose candidature for the constituency was withdrawn in the last election after the AIADMK decided to allot the seat to its then alliance partner DMDK’s candidate V.C. Chandirakumar (now the rebel candidate for the same constituency contesting with DMK symbol), have been sulking over the party ignoring their favourite leader’s case.

They reportedly rose up in revolt irked by their sidelining.

The supporters of Thannarasu retaliated by causing bleeding injuries to Somasundaram. However, no police case was registered.
