AIADMK activist sets himself afire

R. Balakrishnan (60), an AIADMK cadre, suffered serious burns after he set himself afire at his residence on Sunday.

According to police, he took the extreme step unable to bear that AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa was out of power. His daughter is getting married soon and the family members were out to distribute invitation cards . Balakrishnan, who was alone in the house, doused himself with kerosene and set himself afire.

Neighbours rushed him to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.

The police recovered from the house a letter written by him addressed to Ms. Jayalalithaa.

He had said in the letter that he has been offering special prayers for the return of Ms. Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister.
