Advocates boycotted courts, tribunals and consumer forums on Tuesday to protest against the police attack on the president of the Egmore Bar Association on Saturday.
They alleged that the office-bearer, A. Michael, was attacked by the MKB Nagar police. Trouble started when Mr. Michael requested the police to drop a case against the relative of another lawyer as the parties had reached a compromise. When the police refused, there was an altercation and the police assaulted Mr. Michael, they said.
The Madras High Court Advocates Association had called for a boycott of courts on Tuesday. As usual, courts functioned with Judges taking up the cases for hearing. Several advocates attended to their cases.
On Monday and Tuesday, some of the petitioners themselves represented their cases.
