An advocate, Deva alias Socrates (34) of Manamadurai, and his friend I. Chinna Thambi (23) were arrested in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old woman, C. Vanitha of Manamadurai, who was found dead with bleeding injuries along the Ring Road near Chinthamani toll gate.

Police said a case of suspicious death was registered on September 29 after the body of the unidentified woman was found with multiple injuries. Avaniapuram police, who had picked up Socrates, found during interrogation that he had befriended the deceased on the promise of marrying her.

However, when he refused to keep his promise, Vanitha allegedly threatened to commit suicide and leave a suicide note accusing him for her death.

Frustrated over her frequent threats, Socrates, along with his friend, decided to murder her. After taking her to the isolated spot in Chinthamani, the duo murdered her and left the body there.

The police have booked the duo for murder and criminal conspiracy.
