A three-member fact-finding team led by human rights activist A. Marx has called for a fast track court to look into the charges of murder and illegal granite quarrying against CPI’s ex-MLA Thally Ramachandran here.

The team of activists arrived here in the backdrop of the recent murder of CPI (ML) sympathiser L. Vishwanathan, who had campaigned against the CPI candidate Thally Ramachandran, on May 18.

The team that included Prof. Marx, Dalit activist Aranga Gunasekaran and advocate Haribabu visited Thally, Denkanikottai, Kelamangalam and Rayakottai areas to gather facts on the recent murder of the activist and similar murders and cases against CPI’s ex-MLA Thally Ramachandran.

Vishwanathan, was the brother of Bhaskaran alias Gunaseelan, a CPI(ML) functionary murdered in 2013.

Bhaskaran alias Gunaseelam was murdered by a hit squad and his body was found in Mallur in Kolar district, while the then sitting MLA Thally Ramachandran was in Salem prison in connection with another murder of a Left-wing functionary. Thally Ramachandran was charge-sheeted in the murder following a confessional statement by one of the accused who surrendered in the murder.

Vishwanathan had also campaigned to expose the charges against Thally Ramachandran after he was given a ticket to contest from Thally. Prof. Marx told The Hindu that an RTI filed in the six police stations revealed two pages of crime charges against Thally Ramachandran.

“The information also showed that he was a named history-sheeter and arrested under Goondas while he was a sitting MLA.” Prof. Marx said.

The 11-page report of the team has also called for consolidation of all cases against Mr.Ramachandran and their trial in a fast track court.
