THOOTHUKUDI

V. Muthukumar alias Sathish (20) of Alangudi in Pudukottai district was arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder of B. Meera Thambi (38), an omni bus passenger from Kayalpattinam, police sources said.

The murder occurred near Cruz Fernandez statue in Thoothukudi at 11.15 p.m. on August 26. Muthukumar and his friend K. Sathishkumar (19) of Sivaganga, who surrendered before Sivaganga Judicial Magistrate Court 11, allegedly stabbed Meera Thambi to death under the influence of alcohol.

The murder was the result of a heated argument between Meera Thambi and the two accused, who were causing nuisance, on a Chennai-bound omni bus from Tiruchendur.

When Meera Thambi alighted from the bus to answer the call of nature here, the accused allegedly stabbed him multiple times.
