Accomplices arrested in red sander smuggling case

Police have nabbed one more person in connection with the recent seizure of 396 kg of red sanders from a vehicle on Vallimalai Road.

Personnel attached to the Katpadi police station had on Monday arrested one person – Krishnan (33) of Villupuram – and seized the red sander wood when it was being smuggled in a van to Chennai.

They were on the lookout for his accomplice, who had absconded. Following inquiry with Krishnan, police nabbed Mahesh Kumar (32), a resident of Vandranthangal village, Vellore on Wednesday afternoon. He hails form Velpadi .

Police said Krishnan and Mahesh Kumar were given the job of transporting the red sander logs from Tirupati to Chennai.

They were transporting the wood in a van and had taken a short cut to avoid the check post at Serkadu. They were travelling on Vallimalai Road when a police team intercepted the vehicle.
