A novel protest on Consumer Rights Day

March 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Udhagamandalam:

The Coonoor Consumer Protection Association marked the observance of the World Consumer Rights Day on Sunday with a novel protest. Through distribution of handbills at various places it asked the people not to come to Coonoor on Sunday.

Pointing out that on an average about 50,000 people visited the hill town every day, the association said that the objective of the boycott call was to highlight various shortcomings.

The association lamented that the bus stand was in a state of neglect and passengers were subjected to considerable inconvenience.

The standard of hygiene and sanitation in the town was far from satisfactory. Though the Nilgiris was a tea growing area what was being offered at many places was adulterated tea.

Since local vehicles occupied all the parking space from morning till night vehicles from other places had no space to park.

The association president S. Manogaran told The Hindu that the response to the campaign was satisfactory.
