TIRUNELVELI: People who were washing clothes near Corporation’s infiltration wells in the Tamirabharani were warned against carrying out such activities near the drinking water source.

When they received complaints from the public on Tuesday about a few persons washing a large number of clothes near the infiltration wells in the Tamirabharani, Corporation officials from Thatchanallur and Melapalayam zones inspected the spot immediately.

As a few people were washing clothes near the infiltration well, the officials took them along with the clothes and their vehicles to Thatchanallur ward office. The officials released them after issuing a stern warning that they should not wash the clothes near the infiltration wells.

“I’ve instructed our officials to identify suitable areas in all four zones for creating exclusive spots for washing clothes in the river so that it will not pollute the water drawn from infiltration wells,” said Commissioner S. Sivasubramanian.
