There is scope for giving a facelift to the Perundurai railway station through tie-up with industries and educational institutions in the town, official sources indicated.
Industries could approach the Railways with a plan of action for utilisation of funds earmarked for Corporate Social Responsibility to devise a project for the purpose under the Public Private Participatory model, a senior official said.
Railway officials are hopeful of educational institutions evincing interest in adding value to railway property, and expects the State government to provide sufficient land for laying the approach road to the station.
During his inspection on Saturday, Divisional Railway Manager Hari Shankar Verma invited sponsors for carrying out projects.
The Union Railway Ministry had, during 2012, issued a Policy on Participative models for rail connectivity and capacity augmentation. Projects under PPP model are undertaken on the basis of operational requirement, financial viability, bankability and interest of stakeholders.
Subsequently, Model Concession Agreements for Non-Government line model, Joint Venture, Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) and Customer funded models were issued.
