Hunger strike against Enayam project

The People’s Movement Against Enayam International Container Transshipment Terminal (PMAEICTT) staged a hunger strike in Devicode village near Karungal town in Kanniyakumari district on Saturday.

PMAEICTT Legal Advisor S. Stanly Casmic Sundar told The Hindu that this was their 16th protest against the Enayam terminal. The movement’s coordinator and former Colechal Chairman J. Jesiah, Former IAS Officer Devasagayam, Neithal Makkal Iyakkam District president Kurumbanai Berlin, Padmanabhapuram DMK MLA T. Mano Thangaraj spoke at the protest.

Hundreds of men and women from the affected villages participated in the day-long protest. Few villagers also hoisted black flag to show their protest against the project.

Protest meetings have also been held in Midalam, Mel Midalam, Helen Nagar, Ramanthurai, Kurumbanai and Colachel, Alanji, Thozhicode and Theruvukkadai in the district.

Meanwhile, PMAEICTT along with the fishermen community has planned to undertake a boat rally s from Thengaipattinam to Kanniyakumari to show their protest against the Enayam project on Sunday.
