DMK chief M. Karunanidhi’s estranged son M.K. Alagiri on Thursday called on his father in Chennai, even as his brother and party treasurer M.K. Stalin said the meeting had no political connotations and asked the media not to “create unnecessary confusion”.
Mr. Alagiri called on Mr. Karunanidhi at the latter’s Gopalapuram residence and also met his mother Dayalu Ammal.
The meeting was “to make amends with my FATHER”, Mr. Alagiri was quoted as saying according to his son Durai Dhayanidhi’s Twitter handle.
“Went to make amends with my FATHER... With absolutely no agenda to it... Father being the operative word here...— MK Alagiri,” Mr. Dhayanidhi tweeted.
The meeting sparked off speculation that the former Madurai strongman, >expelled from the DMK in 2014, might make a comeback.
“There is no party-related or political (angle to the meeting). You (media) please don’t create unnecessary confusion,” Mr. Stalin told reporters.
Party spokesperson, T.K.S. Elangovan, responding to queries on whether Mr. Alagiri’s will be reinducted into the DMK, said, “The party high command has to decide.”
