8,678 staff for poll duty

The administration has drawn 8,678 teachers and government employees from various departments for election work, says a release from the district election officer here on Monday.

The first training programme for the officials – presiding officers and booth-level officers — were held in S.T. Hindu College, S.L.B. Government Higher Secondary School, Scott Christina College in Nagercoil and Amala Convent Higher Secondary School in Thuckalay on Sunday.

Mr. Chavan had addressed at the training programme and gave instructions.

Officials were given training in following ECI rules on polling day, handling of EVMs, etc.
