The Southern Railway will install CCTV cameras in 82 railway stations in Chennai division at a cost of Rs. 40.6 crore in six months.
“The Union Ministry of Railways recently sanctioned Rs. 40.6 crore for installing CCTV cameras in 82 railway stations in the Chennai division. Each station will have 15 to 16 cameras. There will be 15 remote monitoring location,” Anupam Sharma, divisional railway manager, Chennai, told reporters on Thursday.
He was here to inspect the ongoing development works at the Katpadi railway station.
The 82 stations across the Chennai division are in addition to the existing seven stations that are already equipped with the surveillance mechanism, he noted.
42 CCTV cameras at Katpadi
Meanwhile, the Katpadi station has received separate funding for installing the cameras. “Forty two CCTV cameras will be provided at Katpadi in the next three to four months at a cost of Rs. 1.04 crore,” he said.
