Constructive feedback as motivation was necessary for overall professional development, said teachers who took up the Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) Teachers’ Professional Olympiad (TPO) on Saturday.

The Olympiad, which is a two-hour test with objective multiple choice test format, aims at identifying outstanding teachers and teacher candidates and creating a range of career, recognition and professional development opportunities for them as well as the schools and teacher training colleges they represent.

Bharathi Harihar, a teacher from MCTM International School, said that opportunities for teachers to get appraisal and comprehensive feedback for their work were limited. “Teachers should get to know where they stand with their peers and improvements they can make to enhance themselves professionally,” she said.

Around 8,000 teachers took up the test.
