7 get life term for double murder

Principal District-cum-Sessions Judge V. Sivagnanam awarded life sentence to seven persons in a double murder case here on Tuesday.

According to the prosecution, M. Rajaiah (47) of Ammapatti in Andipatti block and his son R. Selvam were murdered on May 25, 2005 by 10 persons, including three minor boys, who wanted to avenge the murder of their relative C. Thangavel in January 3, 2004 over a personal dispute with the father-son duo.

Rajadhani police arrested the accused – Samaraj, his brother Chandran, and their accomplices Asokan, Thangapandi, Mani, Prabhu and Deivendran and the three minor boys.

The Principal District-cum-Sessions Judge, who heard the case, awarded life sentence to the seven persons and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 on each. The case against the minors was being heard by the court separately.

Rajaiah and Selvam had been jailed in connection with the murder of Thangavel and were on bail.
