690 vehicles checked

A total of 690 vehicles belonging to 92 schools were inspected by officials for ascertaining their fitness for use during the forthcoming academic year. Led by P. Chadrasekaran, the team comprised R. Sudhakar, Superintendent of Police, Selvi, Chief Educational Officer and Rajkumar, Inspector of Vehicles.

They verified the seating arrangements, capacity of each vehicle, height of foot board from the ground level, emergency exit facility and other technical details.

In a release issued later, he said that school vehicles from the Thanjavur and Pattukottai educational districts were inspected. Of them, the fitness certificate for six vehicles had been temporarily suspended for rectification of certain technical defects. The fitness certificates would be issued after the school managements complied with the technical deficiencies.
