Sixty-eight booths have been identified as hyper-sensitive in Pennagaram Assembly constituency, Director General of Police Letika Saran has said.
After visiting some of the hyper-sensitive booths in the constituency, she told newsmen on Thursday that all the 250 booths were identified as sensitive by the election authorities, whereas the police had identified 68 booths as hyper-sensitive.
Ten check-posts had been established by the district police at the entry points of the constituency. In addition to this, two check-posts were established at the district border. Police manning the check-posts will check all the vehicles going in and coming out of the constituency.
As many as 10 striking force teams had been formed to meet law and order problems that may arise during the election process. That apart, 30 police pickets were posted in the hyper-sensitive villages.
All the police stations in the constituency were headed by an official in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
As many as five DSPs, 20 Inspectors, 60 Sub-Inspectors and 530 police personnel had been deployed in the constituency.
To meet any eventuality, battalions from paramilitary forces and Tamil Nadu Special Police Company would soon be deployed, she added.
To a query, Ms. Saran said the police had made elaborate arrangements for the conduct of fair and free election. Irrespective of party affiliation, police would accord enough security to all the political leaders.
Prompt action
Impartial action would be initiated against those who violate the code of conduct.
She said cases were registered against nine vehicles for violation of election code of conduct.
All the policemen deployed in the constituency would be provided quality food by the department, for which a common kitchen would be set up within the segment, she added.
Earlier, she inspected the polling booths in Indoor. Papparapatti, Eriyur and Mulluvadi in Pennagaram.
P. Amutha, District Election Officer, K. Radhakrishnan, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), G. Venkatraman, Deputy Inspector General of Police, R. Sudhakar, Superintendent of Police, Dharmapuri, A.G. Babu, SP, Krishnagiri, and Mayilvahanan, SP, Salem accompanied her during the inspection.
