A total of 45 sportspersons studying in schools and colleges/universities in Vellore received scholarships of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) on Monday.
According to a press release, Collector S.A. Raman handed over the scholarship to the students who had won medals, including in weightlifting, boxing, table tennis, chess and taekwondo. Sportspersons studying in high/higher secondary schools received ₹10,000, while those studying in colleges/universities received ₹13,000. A total of 23 schools students and three college students received the scholarship for the period 2014-2015 — totalling ₹2,69,000. For 2015-2016, scholarship was granted to 16 school students and three college students, totalling ₹1,99,000, the release said.
District Revenue Officer T. Sengottaiyan and District Sports Officer S. Ramesh were present.
