Intending to increase the efficiency of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday said she has ordered filling of posts of 4,000 Field Assistants

They would be recruited through the Employment Office and paid a consolidated salary of Rs 3,250 during their two-year training period. On completion of training, they would be made permanent, she said in a statement.

On the status of other power plants in the state, she said Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant would soon start power generation following her government’s “efficient handling” of problems that came in the way of work at the plant.

Work at three thermal plants at Vallur (1,000 MW), North Chennai (1,200 MW) and Mettur (600 MW) were on the verge of completion, she added.

“With all these measures, Tamil Nadu is not far from the day of becoming a power surplus state,” she said.
