4 killed, 12 injured as bus collides with lorry

Four persons were killed and 12 others injured when a Tirupathi-bound TN State Transport Corporation bus coming from Salem collided head-on with a tipper lorry at Ramanur Koottu Road near Jolarpet on Saturday afternoon.

All the four deceased — Chandra (30) of Yercaud, Sakiunthala (50) and her grandson Vijay (17) of Sevvapet, Salem, and Gayathri (24), d/o Prathapan of Vasavi Nagar, Erode — and 10 of the injured were bus passengers. Sakunthala and Gayathri died on the spot while Chandra and Vijay died at the Government Hospital, Tirupattur.

All the 12 injured persons including the drivers of the two vehicles were admitted to the Tirupattur Government Hospital, from where some were referred to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, Adukkamparai. – Special Correspondent
