The “Q” branch police have detained four persons, including three Sri Lankan Tamils when they were found with two packets of fake heroin. On a tip off, a Q branch team rounded up the four accused when they were moving in a suspicious manner near the railway station here on Wednesday and handed them over to the local police after interrogation. The names of the accused were given as A. Kannan (29), a worker in a fire cracker unit in Sivakasi; S. Yogeswaran (34) and E Mohamed Kanjur (39), Sri Lankan Tamils living in Vembakottai refugee camp in Virudhunagar; and I. Mohamed Nippar, another Sri Lankan Tamil residing in Thirupalaikudi.

The police said after Kannan, a friend of Yogeswaran, established contact with a drug trafficker in Tiruchi through a woman from an NGO, two others joined them and formed a gang to smuggle the drug to Sri Lanka through the sea route or sell it locally.
