3 die in explosives godown blast near Villupuram

In a blast a godown stacked with explosives at Paadiyanthal in Thirukkoilur block near here, three persons, including a child, were killed on Monday.

The deceased were identified as one-year-old E.Sanjeevi, son of the licensed godown owner Elumalai, and two workers S.Rajendran (17) and N.Selvam (30).

The police sources said that fireworks and explosives meant for digging farm wells were stored in the godown. When somebody was toying with a clump of explosives with the foot it suddenly burst into flames and resulted in loud explosion, pulling down the building.

While Sanjeevi and Rajendran died on the spot Selvam succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.

The police have booked a case.
