3 die in bull sports in Krishnagiri, Thoothukudi

Three persons died in eruthattam (bull chase) and rekla race in different parts of the city on Sunday.

Sanmoorthy (34) of Paichal village near Tiruppatur town of Vellore district fell down while chasing a bull. He suffered serious injuries in the stampede and was rushed to the Government Hospital in Krishnagiri town, where he succumbed to the injuries. One unidentified person was gored to death by a bull at the event.

Fifty others suffered injuries and were administered first aid. The Bargur police have registered a case and are investigating.

More than 70 bulls from western districts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh participated in the event held on the Bargur main road.

Compensation sought

At Seidunganallur in a bull ran into a crowd of spectators, leaving one person dead. The victim, I. Anthony (50) of Keela Nattarkulam, a casual labourer, sustained injuries on the head and was rushed to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, where he died. ‘

His relatives refused to accept the body and demanded ₹25 lakh as compensation and a government job for his daughter.

The event was held after a gap of two years and involved 13 small carts and 9 big ones.

At least 70 persons died in jallikattu events held in Dindigul, Theni and Tiruchi districts.
