20 houses, 3 shops destroyed in fire

Twenty six houses and three shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at Madhavan Nair Colony in Threspuram, close to the city coastline, on Monday.

The fire broke out around 12.45 p.m. Fire and Rescue Services personnel and five fire tenders, including those owned by a heavy industries, rushed to the spot and put out the fire by 1.45 p.m. All the residents of the area, however, moved out to safety. The cause of the fire is not known immediately.

Household articles, television sets and clothes worth Rs.10 lakh were destroyed in the fire. A team of officialsarrived at the scene and took stock of the situation.
