The first special employment camp conducted by the Tamil Nadu Rural Livelihood Mission (TNRLM) of the Mahalir Thittam evoked good response from educated youths hailing from rural areas in Kanyakumari district on Saturday.
A total of 192 out of over 3,000 educated rural youths walked out happily with employment offer letters, said TNRLM officials here.
The officials said that over 3000 youths, with qualification from standard VIII to Post-Graduate level, had turned up for the first-ever camp organised by TNRLM at the SLB Government Higher Secondary School in Nagercoil.
Twenty-two companies including four BPOs from Chennai, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Tiruppur and other destinations screened the candidates at the special camp.
A textile company based at Coimbatore offered salary between Rs. 5,500 and Rs. 12,000 and few BPO companies having their units locally and pan-India presence offered salaries ranging from Rs. 6,500 to Rs. 8000.
A leading HR company with its office in UAE and leading cities in the country conducted preliminary interviews of few candidates for petroleum sectors in overseas employment.
However, the final selection will depend up on the performance of the candidates in the next level of interview, company sources said.
Success of the first camp had encouraged TNRLM to conduct subsequent special employment camps in Thuckalay and Marthandam in the coming months, officials said.
Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan inaugurated the camp in the presence of Chief Education Officer V. Jayakumar, Project Officer of Mahalir Thittam T. Sadayappa Vinayaga Moorthy and Assistant Project Officer P. Anthony Siluvai.
