With the northeast monsoon gaining momentum to bring in more rain across the district, the Department of Public Health has formed 101 mobile medical teams for providing real-time medical assistance to the patients in remote areas. Public can contact these mobile teams by calling ‘108’ or ‘1077.
Each team that would be deployed in various parts of the district to reach the patients within the shortest possible time, has a qualified physician, pharmacist, nurse and an assistant to extend medical assistance to any kind of ailment and carry out preventive measures to avoid outbreak of any disease in the place it has been stationed.
Apart from the 25 medical teams attached to the regular ‘108’ ambulance vans, the Department of Public Health has formed 38 flood relief medical units under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), 19 mobile medical units that would be on the move and as many regional-level rapid medical assistance teams.
Flagging off the mobile medical teams at VOC Ground in Palayamkottai on Wednesday, Collector M. Karunakaran said that the medical teams would conduct village-level camps for fever and other communicable diseases, check the quality of chlorinated water being supplied to the residents and extend medical assistance to the flood-affected and road accident victims during the monsoon. “If the situation demands or in case of emergency, the team would shift patients to the nearest hospital, government hospital or Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for further treatment,” Dr. Karunakaran said.
Monitoring Officer P. Senthilkumar, MPs S. Muthukaruppan and Vijila Sathyananth, Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari, Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital Dean K. Sithya Athiya Munavarah and senior officials of the Department of Public Health were present.
